Winning the World Series 5: Field of Dreams

Deuteronomy 30:3-9

God, your God, will restore everything you lost; he’ll have compassion on you; he’ll come back and pick up the pieces from all the places where you were scattered.

4 No matter how far away you end up, God, your God, will get you out of there

5 and bring you back to the land your ancestors once possessed. It will be yours again. He will give you a good life and make you more numerous than your ancestors.

6 God, your God, will cut away the thick calluses on your heart and your children’s hearts, freeing you to love God, your God, with your whole heart and soul and live, really live.

7 God, your God, will put all these curses on your enemies who hated you and were out to get you.

8 And you will make a new start, listening obediently to God, keeping all his commandments that I’m commanding you today.

9 God, your God, will outdo himself in making things go well for you: you’ll have babies, get calves, grow crops, and enjoy an all-around good life. Yes, God will start enjoying you again, making things go well for you just as he enjoyed doing it for your ancestors.

9The Lord your God will make you abound in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your land for good. For the Lord will again rejoice over you for good as He rejoiced over your fathers,

 

THE TITLE OF TODAYS MESSAGE IS CALLED “FIELD OF DREAMS” 

Situated somewhere between the twilight zone and third base is the movie Field of Dreams. Its a modern day fairy tale that uses the game of baseball as the backdrop for stories of America’s idea of redemption.

IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME.

IS THS HEAVEN? NO, IT’S IOWA. 

Lauded as a baseball movie, Field of Dreams has so much more to offer about lost dreams, regrets, and sentimentality for the past – especially in regards to family and one’s passions. Lost relationships, lost opportunities and in this one place–a corn field that’s now a baseball field–everybody gets a do-over. 

It’s really about the hope or the idea of Redemption. 

It’s about regaining personal opportunities that were otherwise forever lost. 

Regret. Shame. Terrible disappointment. Heartbreak. Remorse. 

The reason things are lost forever has to do with the alignment of the timing of things.

THE CHALLENGE I’M GOING TO GIVE TO YOU TODAY IS THIS: YOU DON’T HAVE TO JUST WISH REDEMPTION IS A REAL THING. 

REDEMPTION CAN ABSOLUTELY BE REAL TO YOU IF YOU KNOW THE REDEEMER, JESUS CHRIST, IN A VERY REAL WAY 

 

Redemption changes everything!

Redemption frees what would otherwise be bound and enslaved.

Redemption retrieves what has forever been lost.

THE IDEA OF SOMETHING FOREVER LOST IS NOT GOD’S IDEA. IN THE TIMING OF GOD, WE ARE GAINING ALL THINGS. 

WHEN WE ARE OUT OF SYNCH WITH GOD, WE ARE LOSING ALL THINGS. 

There is something I call redeemed time and 

unredeemed time 

REDEEMED & UNREDEEMED TIME

Ephesians 5:16

Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

 

In the timing of God–Redeemed Time–the Kingdom is coming to you and you are gaining all things. 

Philippians 1:21

For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 

 

In the Bible, if you see a passage in scripture that says “when the days have passed” or it speaks in past time or passing of time, it is speaking of an unredeemed timeline. The scriptures that follow will have something to do with something needing to be redeemed.

If a Bible passage starts off with “but when the time had come” or speaks on the coming of time, this is speaking on a timeline that is redeemed.

 

WE MUST LEARN TO GAIN PROPHETIC WISDOM IN THE TIMING OF GOD 

Psalm 90:12 (NKJV)

 “Teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.”

Prioritization and applying our hearts to the wisdom of the moment. 

WE MUST LEARN  TO PROPHETICALLY COOPERATE WITH THE TIMING OF GOD 

1 Chronicles 12:32

And of the children of Issachar, who were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were under their command 

The tribal anointing described here is something I call an Issacharian lifestyle. 

 

There is the timing the devil tells you and there is the timing that God tells you. 

Daniel 7:25

And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times (seasons) and laws

 

But God offers us a different timing. He doesn’t want you ignorant of the importance of the timing you are in. 

God said in Isaiah 48…

Isaiah 48:5

I have even from the beginning declared it to you; before it came to pass I showed it to you.

John 14:26

Jesus said the Holy Spirit “will teach you all things.” 

Friends confide in one another. Abraham was called God’s “friend” (Isaiah 41:8; James 2:23).

Genesis 18:17

And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do.

Now, because of Jesus’ atonement, we are called friends of God:

John 15:15

I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends.

 

The Bible also says that Jesus was crucified so that the blessing of Abraham, part of which was friendship with God, would come upon the Gentiles — us (Galatians 3:14).

 

He gave Noah advance notice of when the flood would be 

(Genesis 6,7).

He told Abraham how long the Israelites would be in Egypt (Genesis 15:13).

 He revealed to many the very day of Elijah’s rapture

 (2 Kings 2).

He told Jeremiah how long the Babylonian exile would be (Jeremiah 29:10).

He told Daniel exactly when Messiah would come the first time (Daniel 9:25-26).

 

THE PREMISE OF THE MOVIE FIELD OF DREAMS IS A FAIRY TALE ABOUT GETTING TIME BACK FOR THE SAKE OF RETRIEVING WHAT’S WRONG AND REDEEMING WHAT’S BEEN LOST OR STOLEN. 

BUT I TELL YOU, MY FRIENDS, THE FACT THAT THERE IS A TRUE REDEEMER WHO IS SERIOUS ABOUT REDEEMING EVERY PART OF YOUR TIMELINE IS NO FAIRY TALE AT ALL. 

 

REDEMPTION IS REAL BECAUSE THE REDEEMER, JESUS CHRIST, IS RISEN FROM THE DEAD!

 2 Timothy 2:8

Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gospel

 

Psalms 139:1-9 (Passion) 

Lord, you know everything there is to know about me.

2 You perceive every movement of my heart and soul, and you understand my every thought before it even enters my mind.

3–4 You are so intimately aware of me, Lord. You read my heart like an open book and you know all the words I’m about to speak before I even start a sentence! You know every step I will take before my journey even begins.

5 You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. You have laid your hand on me!

6 This is just too wonderful, deep, and incomprehensible! Your understanding of me brings me wonder and strength.

7 Where could I go from your Spirit? Where could I run and hide from your face?

8 If I go up to heaven (eternity), you’re there! If I go down to the realm of the dead (eternity), you’re there too!

9 If I fly with wings into the shining dawn (tomorrow), you’re there! If I fly into the radiant sunset (yesterday), you’re there waiting!

WHY IS JESUS WAITING IN YOUR PAST? TO REDEEM IT!

Isaiah 46:10 – Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

Psalms 23:6 – Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Time and redemption are woven together in God’s economy.

Space-time continuum = redemption / death continuum

2 kinds of earthly time – redeemed and unredeemed.

The moment Adam sinned, a trap door of redeemed time fell out from under him and unredeemed time began. 

The timeline (take blocks) – A day is like a thousand years (Psalms 90:4 & 2 Peter 3:8)

God has forgiven all our sins, but we are good at holding on to them. We are also good at holding onto our pain and trauma until it literals defines us. Redeeming time heals that. 

Will your circumstances change? NO. The way those circumstances affect you can and does change!

DAY 37 – Spiritual Beef Jerky

Point 5: You are responsible to treasure how God moves in your life.

Therefore know this day, and consider it in your heart, that the Lord Himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other. – Deuteronomy 4:39

When the Lord does an amazing new thing in your life, it is your responsibility to guard what God has done and keep it special in your life. You have to value and make a big deal out of this thing called redeeming time by pondering it personally. 

But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. – Luke 2:19

That’s what Mary did. She pondered. She considered, contemplated and let the goodness, blessing, and the wonder of it all marinate in her spirit. Throughout her lifetime, I’d guess those treasured moments became revelations of God’s love—kind of like the pieces of a puzzle coming together. 

When it comes to redeeming your timeline, your ability to hang onto the truth of the Word and the impact of His presence is all about being committed to contemplation. What you meditate, or mentally chew on, is a skillset developed by recognizing how God moves in your life. 

Psalms 119:15

I will meditate on Your precepts, and contemplate Your ways.

Field of dreams 

THERE ARE NO DO-OVERS UNLESS THERE IS REDEMPTION 

There is no redemption without a redeemer. 

WE NEED SUPERNATURAL INTELLIGENCE WHEN IT COMES TO TIMING 

Hebrews 1:1-2

God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

God speaks in different ways during different parts of our calendars and timelines
