Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.

3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His names sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.

The Good Shepherd   The Great Shepherd   The Chief Shepherd

   John 10:11            Hebrews 13:20             1 Peter 5:4

When we say “the Lord is my shepherd,” we are saying that we are His flock or we are His tribe, because if there is anything we have learned from the Lord being our shepherd and the experience of living in Psalm 23 life, is that we are completely dependent upon Him.

The land of the shepherd is hard and harsh. It has the Valley of the Shadow of Death and there’s no way around. We have to go through it. So we had better have God with us

DEATH CANNOT BE AVOIDED.

DEATH MUST BE CONQUERED AND OVERCOME.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil;

For You are with me;

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

The Land of the shepherd is hard and harsh.

Worry is dealing with tomorrow’s problems on today’s pasture.

Words mentioned 23 times in Scripture include:

killeth

leaven

Hell (all in the New Testament)

The word “Death” is in the Bible 138 times

or 6 x 23

Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

What we see in the 23rd verse of the 6th chapter of the 6th verse is exactly what the number 23 means prophetically.

Everyone has to face Death and everyone is offered life through Jesus Christ .

John 5:24 – “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.”

John 8:51 – “Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death.”

John 8:52 – ‘If anyone keeps My word he shall never taste death.’

Romans 6:8-10 – Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.

1 Corinthians 15:20-27 – But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming. 24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 27 For “He has put all things under His feet.”

2 Corinthians 1:9 – Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead,

2 Corinthians 1:10 – who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us

“Fear the Lord” is in the Old Testament 23 times

The fear of the Lord is…

When you love what God loves and hate what God hates

The fear of the Lord is…

When you choose and live the life of Christ over the the natural life you would have with him.

The fear of the Lord is… when you are loyal to the King and His Kingdom and rebel against the Global assault against the promises of God.

The fear of the Lord is who you live according to God’s heart and not according to the whims of your flesh.
